There are several ways how to connect your devices to the internet. The most frequent one is of course wireless connection (WiFi), but you can also get connected by the fixed network (LAN). Our system of secured internet connection is implemented within the project Eduroam.

Our students and employees have the possibility to connect to the internet at a vast number of universities and other institutions, which are part of Eduroam project, using the same login as they would at the UP. You can find more information regarding Eduroam project at Eduroam webpage.

In order to connect yourself successfully to the internet you need to have appropriate technical equipment and login details (name and password).

Fixed Connection (LAN)

  • freely accessible sockets at Central Library "Zbrojnice" and at student's dormitory

Wireless Connection (WiFi)

  • you can connect to WiFi in most of university buildings, network name is eduroam (or eduroama, eduroamg)

What should I do before I connect to WiFi at UP?

Seznámit se s pravidly

Seznámit se s pravidly využívání počítačové sítě, které jsou popsány ve Směrnici rektora UP. Při využití služby VPN nebo WiFi se automaticky stáváte součástí naší sítě, a proto je nutné znát svá práva a povinnosti. Tato směrnice je pro uživatele sítě závazná.

Mít zabezpečené zařízení

Je potřeba mít nainstalovaný antivirový program (Avast!, AVG, atd.) a používat dostatečně aktualizovaný operační systém (Windows, OSX, atd.). Pokud budete na síti UP využívat nedostatečně zabezpečený přístroj, ohrozíte tím nejen vlastní počítač nebo telefon, tablet, ale i přístroje ostatních uživatelů sítě. Zjistit si přihlašovací údaje pro připojení

Pro přístup do bezdrátové internetové sítě (eduroam) je nutné mít přihlašovací jméno a heslo. Jméno pro přihlášení k síti eduroam tvoří přihlašovací jméno do Portálu (tzv. Portal ID) a zadává se ve tvaru Portal ID@upol.cz. (Upozornění: Toto není e-mailová adresa!)

  • Studenti UP - Studenti mají možnost si Portál ID vyhledat v Kontaktech.
  • Zaměstnanci UP - Zaměstnanci své přihlašovací jméno zjistí od svého správce počítačové sítě.
  • Hosté UP:
    • Uživatelé z institucí zapojených v projektu eduroam používají jméno a doménu podle pokynů své organizace. Nastavení vlastností připojení však musí přizpůsobit podle návodu platného na UP.
    • Pro hosty UP (nečleny eduroam) a pro případ konferencí existuje tzv. hostitelský účet upol-guest, jehož heslo se pravidelně mění. Kontaktujte správce počítačové sítě příslušné části, kde se chcete připojit, případně CVT.

Heslo pro přístup do sítě eduroam si studenti a zaměstnanci UP vytvářejí sami. Po přihlášení do Portálu UP vyhledejte odkaz Upravit můj profil –> Změna hesla pro WiFi, LAN a VPN (=Virtual Private Network).

Access to the UP network via VPN

You can usually access the UP network only from Palacký University premises. However, if you´re on the road or you prefer studying at home, then you have the perfect opportunity to access the university network from anywhere in the world by VPN (Virtual Private Network). VPN allows us to access any database or informational system, which are for security and licence reasons available only from university premises, as if you were somewhere at the university.

What can VPN be used for?

  • access to the electronic information resources prepaid by UP
  • running a client in SAP or STAG
  • access to university e-mail using a mail client access to *the MS network (possibility of using a shared printer, network drives…)
  • protected, encrypted access to resources in our network

How does VPN work?

Your computer establishes a connection with the university VPN server, which verifies your credentials. A special kind of so-called tunnel connection is then established between your computer and the server. In this connection all the data that are browsed are encrypted and therefore protected against eavesdropping during transmission. Our server decrypts incoming data and passes them on. Secure data transmission is one of the indisputable advantages of VPN. During the VPN connection, your computer uses an IP address which is assigned from our address space. From the outside, it looks as if your computer is directly connected to our network.

Assigned IP addresses

The UP computer network uses the address space from 158.194.0.0 to 158.194.255.255 (Class B address). If you connect through VPN, your computer gets an IP address which will begin with the digits 158.194. x.x.
